UK Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport visits Jersey to meet the British & Irish Lions Team

June 17, 2021

Rt Hon Oliver Dowden MP, UK Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, visited Jersey from 15 to 16 June 2021. His visit coincided with the presence on the Island of the British & Irish Lions rugby team, undertaking training prior to their tour of South Africa.

Minister Dowden visited the Strive elite sporting facility to see the Lions train, and toured Mont Orgueil Castle accompanied by representatives from Visit Jersey and Jersey Heritage. He also met the Chief Minister, Senator John Le Fondré, the Deputy Chief Minister, Senator Lyndon Farnham, and the Minister for External Relations, Senator Ian Gorst.

The visit concluded with the British & Irish Lions Charity Gala Dinner. Proceeds from that event will be used to enable young people in Jersey, who may not otherwise have the opportunity, to access sport at all levels.
