Polish Ambassador Visit to Jersey

April 28, 2022

Between Monday 25 – Wednesday 27 April 2022, the Polish Ambassador to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Piotr Wilczek, visited Jersey. The visit marked one of the first diplomatic trips of the Ambassador’s term and reflected the strength of the relationship between Jersey and Poland, ranging from commercial links and future business opportunities, to cultural and people-to-people ties.

During the visit, the Ambassador, accompanied by a small delegation of Polish Embassy officials, held meetings with the Chief Minister, the Assistant Minister for External Relations and also met the Minister for External Relations. His Excellency Wilczek was also introduced to the Lieutenant Governor, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton and the Bailiff, Mr Timothy Le Cocq QC, and their roles and responsibilities.

While on Island, the Ambassador unveiled a plaque dedicated to Polish printer Zenon Świętosławski, at whose grave he also laid a wreath, alongside direct descendants. The Ambassador also met members of the Polish community to highlight the various benefits that Polish citizens have brought to Jersey.

As part of the programme, the Polish Embassy delegation also attended a Jersey-Poland business roundtable, joined by business representatives from the Polish and Jersey construction and fintech sectors. The roundtable was a great success, presenting all stakeholders with the opportunity to establish an in-person contact through networking, further build business links, and create mutually beneficial partnerships. Following the event, efforts are underway to ensure the dialogue continues among these two very different, but crucial sectors hopefully leading to tangible benefits for Jersey and Poland.
