Minister for External Relations holds meeting with Chair of the International Trade Committee

August 28, 2020

On 27 August, Jersey’s Minister for External Relations Senator Ian Gorst met with Angus MacNeil MP, Chair of the International Trade Select Committee, which is responsible for scrutinising the spending, administration and policy of the UK Government’s Department for International Trade (DIT).

The discussion centred on the representation of the Island’s interests in the negotiations relating to the UK-EU Future Partnership and third country trade agreements, as well as Jersey’s working relationships with UK Government departments. The challenges and opportunities faced by small island communities with respect to autonomy and immigration were also discussed, with comparisons drawn between Jersey and McNeil’s constituency of Na h-Eileanan an Iar located in the Outer Hebrides.

The Government of Jersey London Office will continue to work closely with the Committee to ensure Jersey’s interests are recognised and addressed as part of the UK Government’s ongoing international trade negotiations.
